Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge has four groups of trails within it, including the trail leading up to the top of the waterfall. The park has a lodge that serves as a starting point of Appalachian Trail hikers. The park also checks in guests for a nearby facility called the Len Foote Hike Inn, a backcountry eco-friendly inn that is 5 miles from the park, one mile from the Appalachian Approach trail and 4.4 miles from Springer Mountain.
In-town living has so much to offer but once in a while you might enjoy taking the day for a short drive to get out of the city. I’ve done this and it’s a great time. Whether you’re bringing guests from out of town or the kids or maybe just you and the dog, it’s well worth the time. The advantage of living in-town is you have all that the Metro-Atlanta area has to offer by way of parks, shops and restaurants and then… hop on the highway and whisk your way out of town for the day.
For Amicalola Falls from Midtown Atlanta, just head up Georgia 400 and in an hour and half you’re enjoying the serenity and beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. If you’ve chosen, or plan to choose any of the many of Metro Atlanta’s hot spots like Smyrna, Marietta, East Cobb or the Perimeter, you’re even closer.
